Happy Fourth of July everyone! I always like to do a scrub at least twice a week. So this week, I thought I would be festive for the holiday. I made this homemade scrub from ingredients in my kitchen.
1/2 cup of sugar (raw)
handful of blueberries
1-3 tablespoon of olive oil (depending on how dry your skin is)
1 tablespoon of plain yogurt
*use organic ingredients whenever possible
Blueberries are nature's #1 antioxidant and are also high in vitamin C. Antioxidants are known to help to protect your skin. Antioxidants get rid of free radicals, which are oxygen molecules that can break down collagen and elastin, and can make you look older than you really are. High vitamin C content helps to stimulate the production of collagen while working to minimize fine lines.
Strawberries aren't just delicious, they clear up acne and oiliness, make skin younger and smoother, whiten teeth, reduce under-eye puffiness, leave hair glossy and beautifully conditioned, and much more! This fruit's main skin-pleasing ingredient is alpha-hydroxy acid, a great little substance that helps us slough off dead skin cells so that new, youthful skin is revealed.
When topically applied to the skin, yogurt will help moisturize, fight acne, prevent premature aging, relieve sunburn and reduce discoloration. The lactic acid, a natural alpha-hydroxy acid, helps smooth and exfoliate skin as well as, dissolve dead skin and tighten pores. Yogurt also has mild bleaching powers that can smooth out discoloration.
My skin is so silky, smooth! I will definitely be using this scrub again, oh and it smells wonderful too! Hope you enjoy this DIY sugar scrub as much as me.
Say hello to flip flops and sandals, and goodbye wools socks and winter boots. With summer here, us ladies love to show off our freshly painted toes and silky, smooth feet. And after a cold, dry winter here in Steamboat, your feet could use a little TLC. Foot creams and oils aid in winter repair, but nothing gets the job done like a yummy exfoliation. I recently came across this DIY foot scrub and can't wait to try it out!
Homemade Beauty Product DIY Lavender Mint Foot Scrub Recipe from Free People Blog
1/2 cup sea salt
6 fresh mint leaves (2 teaspoons dried)
1/2 cup olive oil
1/8 cup jojoba oil
2 teaspoons dried lavender buds
1-5 drops lavender essential oil
*Use organic ingredients when you can.
Jar with a lid
Combine salt, mint leaves and lavender buds into blender. If using fresh mint leaves: break up the leaves into smaller pieces. Pulse the blender until all the ingredients are ground up. Empty the mixture into a clean jar. Add olive, jojoba and lavender essential oils. Mix everything together until there’s an even consistency throughout.
Slather a quarter-sized amount into each foot. Massage in the mixture, rinse it off and dry your feet. (For a little more pampering, talk your husband/boyfriend into massaging scrub on your feet or do a trade with a friend). And a warning: this foot scrub will make your feet slippery. This DIY foot scrub can be kept in an air-tight container for about a week with fresh mint and a month with dried mint.
Don't forget to lather on your favorite foot cream after you exfoliate.
Hope you enjoy this homemade foot scrub!
As we all know, with warm weather comes mosquitos. Being a mother of two, I definitely choose to protect my kids from mosquitos with a more "natural" bug spray.
